Back in 1996, Larry Labadini rostered a staff of nine $1 pitchers in the LABR experts league draft. He aggressively traded from his $251 offensive strength and managed to finish in fourth place, eight points from the title.
Since then, many have attempted to assemble a $9 pitching staff, but mostly as an exercise. As far as I know, nobody in the experts leagues has gotten through an entire draft spending just $9 on pitchers, though a few—like our own Doug Dennis—have come close.
Six weeks into 2013, we could look back on this year's pre-season end-gamers and see how things are faring. But we can't legitimately pass judgment until October. I think a greater challenge might be to attempt to assemble a group of pitchers who are earning...
