As much as this fantasy game is elegantly constructed, there are still elements of it that are agonizingly flawed.
For many years I've bemoaned the systems we use to acquire free agents during the season. "First come, first served" potentially rewards those who live by their computer. "Reverse order of the standings" potentially rewards those who drafted poorly. The blind bidding of FAAB potentially rewards those who are bad at money management.
There have been attempts to fix this. The Vickrey Method awards players at the price of the second-highest FAAB bid, plus $1. Double-bid FAAB screens out all non-serious owners and sets an initial pricing level in one blind auction, then fine-tunes the bid in a second blind auction.
